Big Apple Style for Big Curves

How to look and feel fabulous…when you are larger than a sample size
Welcome to Foxy Roxy!!  First off, this is the first post and think we should get acquainted. I am a twenty-something girl living in Midtown Manhattan with a successful career in politics and a passion for fashion. With holiday parties, charity galas, and winter nights on the town with my friends, this size-18 girl is always looking for new show-stopping ways to express my inner fashionista.
In New York City, where every sidewalk feels like a runway, your average plus-size mall fashions just won’t cut it. For the longest time, I found my couture-loving self frustrated with the usually frumpy, ill-fitting and cheap polyester 12+ options out there. So, I have dedicated my spare time- what little I have of it- to seeking out the chicest must-haves for any big city girl with the big curves to match! Because let’s face it – though we may be bigger than the girls in Cosmo - we are fierce, smart, sexy, edgy and chic!
So this is for young women everywhere who crave a taste of the luxurious, glamorous “Sex in the City” style – at every budget and every size!
The List
Not your mother’s shapewear. Whether your type is the Downtown banker or the East Village rocker, this sexy underpinning is sure to impress – both with and without the dress on! Here are some body briefers that slim and contour without risking an embarrassing Bridget Jones moment.
DIVINE OUTLINE by Gok Wan,  www.simplybe.ie

Some chic and unique pieces to jazz up your wardrobe and make even the Fashion Week crowd jealous:
Head over the bridge to Brooklyn for Lee Lee’s Valise, a hip little boutique featuring the hottest clothes from plus-size couture designers like Anna Scholz. Not in NYC? Cruise the plus-size fashions at www.shopstyle.com
MILITARY JACKET, $49.95 and LACE RUFFLE COAT $59.95, www.chicstar.com
The LBD for all occasions; David Meister, www.bloomingdales.com
Need something red-carpet worthy?
Try something like a long stunner by Terani Couture or Janique, www.edressme.com

And remember, don’t shy away from the designer labels just because they don’t carry “plus”. A lot of the big names go to a 16 and have knitwear, capes and caftans that will skim your curves.

Shoes! I don’t need to tell you ladies that a great pair of heels can really give your outfit and your attitude a real boost. Glam embellishments and a practical platform really do the trick. Some of my favorites : “Posh” chain sandals by Jeffery Campbell, $165, www.davidz.com
Black Knee-high boots by Naturalizer, $87, www.zappos.com (search for extended sizes for wide calf boots)

The best way to look and feel like a million bucks is with a few choice haute couture accessories like the new “it” bag or slick shades. If you have the cash, invest in a quality designer piece or try out all the latest looks by renting them at www.bagborroworsteal.com
            Go get’em, gals!
